Danesfield House Hotel
Marlow
Danesfield House was completed in 1901 as a family home for Robert William Hudson. The house is the third property to have been built, amidst 65 acres of formal gardens with outstanding views over the River Thames and the Chiltern Hills beyond.
Project Scope
During the early 1940’s, Danesfield was requisitioned as a base to develop the intelligence Section of the Royal Air Force (Reconnaissance and Photography Section).
The property changed hands over the years and the Danesfield House Hotel opened on the 1st July 1991 as a luxury country house hotel.
Glenhurst were engaged by Jex Construction to carry out the design and build of the mechanical services in the Luxurious bedrooms and suites, created in the original stable block.
All bedrooms and suites, spread over the three floors, benefit from underfloor heating, and individual heating or cooling from the ducted concealed air conditioning system. The condenser farm is located on the outside wall of the bedroom block. H&CWS is provided from central plant to the lavishly appointed en-suite bath and shower rooms.
All controls to AC, temperature, AV, lighting etc are operated from individual hand held devices in each suite.
All works were completed and commissioned in time for the exclusive wedding and celebrations of Hollywood celebrities who occupied the whole hotel.
Phyllis Court Club, Henley
Established in 1906, Phyllis Court is a private members club situated in a grand riverside Manor and Pavilion. Set in 18 acres of land with River Thames in Henley, views from the Club and Pavilion span the River Thames and the Chilterns countryside beyond. The Pavilion interior has an abundance of natural daylight and classic architecture adding to the grandeur of the magnificent Manor building.
Project Scope
Beard Construction employed Glenhurst to design and install mechanical services to the newly constructed pavilion.
The construction was modelled on the original old, decayed and unsafe Victorian Pavilion which stood on the same foot print.
Planning constraints dictated that the pavilion, constructed in steel frame, should model the original as far as possible. Consequently, a sympathetic construction ensued with much glass, steel and canvass stretch roof, based on Victorian architecture.
The heating system had to therefore compensate, for the massive glass heat loss and was installed with specially selected vertical and low level skirting radiators, fitted against the steel frame, minimising the visual impact on the river views. As the Pavilion was planned to house occasions, such as weddings, parties, corporate use and annual regatta events, a dedicated kitchen was incorporated. Glenhurst installed all the kitchen services infrastructure with high velocity kitchen hood, supply and extract system together with gas to ovens and hobs and H&CWS.
New male and female cloakrooms were incorporated, where Glenhurst supplied and installed all new sanitaryware.
The Pavilion has been successfully employed since construction, for all the purposes anticipated and is a fantastic asset to the Club for member and guest, riverside enjoyment.
Roseate

The Forbury Hotel,
Reading
The Roseate Reading Hotel (formerly Forbury Hotel) is a boutique hotel in Reading. It is situated in the Forbury, formerly a part of Reading Abbey, and on the southern side of the modern Forbury Gardens.
Project Scope
The building was originally, before conversion, the Shire Hall for Berkshire County Council.
Glenhurst designed and installed all mechanical services including air conditioning to 34 apartment suites, over 7 floors located across the car park from the main period hotel. The condenser farm for the internal AC units is located in a secure compound specially created to house them in the car park. Each suite is self-contained with kitchen, bath/showers room, sitting and bedroom areas, with individual apartment temperature control.
The central core stairwell area is provided with a fire prevention sprinkler system, installed by Glenhurst’s approved fire design and installation specialist, to all latest regulations.
The apartment block also has the provision of a top floor gym and spa area with coffee shop on the ground floor. Both areas we provided with all mechanical services by Glenhurst.
During the unusually high temperatures experienced in 2022, the air conditioned apartments were in much demand.
Marlow
Rowing
Club
Marlow Rowing Club founded in 1871 is located on the River Thames, in Marlow. Situated on the
southern bank of the Thames at Bisham, opposite Marlow town and beside the bridge on the reach
above Marlow Lock, it is one of the main rowing and sculling centres in England.
Project Scope
The club was seriously damaged by a fire in August 2011. The 1896 building was damaged beyond repair and the 1970s building warped by heat. The decision was taken to demolish and rebuild.
Following fundraising and a grant of £1million from Sport England the club reached a fundraising target of around £2.6 million and was substantially rebuilt expanding from four boat bays to five, doubling the gym space and with a third floor bar facility.
As part of Beard Construction Design and Build team, Glenhurst were employed to carry out the Mechanical Services. The new build construction incorporated a variety of Mechanical Services, designed and installed by Glenhurst within all the facilities the Club provides. Gas fired boilers, provide heat and inverter driven heat pumps provide cooling to most areas. The gym has a highly ventilated environment, meeting the air change needs of the multi-purpose facilities available to the rowers whilst training.
The bar facility, displaying a multitude of awards won by the club’s members over the years, is conditioned by acoustically treated air handling units, located in eaves areas on either side of the bar and function room, discharging and extracting temperature controlled air.
Bar, kitchen, changing, showers, wc and other service areas, are all provided with hot, cold, ventilation and cast iron drainage services as required.
Following commissioning, completion and handover, the new clubhouse was opened by club President Steve Redgrave and international coach and MRC member Mike Spracklen in September 2015, at an event attended by local MP (and later PM) Theresa May.
