School
Burnham
Lent Rise School is an Academy Trust, located in Burnham, Slough.
Glenhurst were engaged to carry out modifications to the Main Hall and Entrance Area mechanical
services, by Edgar Taylor, Main Contractors.
Project Scope
The mechanical services upgrade and refurbishment of the Hall extension and Entrance area consist of:
- Heating.
- Ventilation.
- Cold water services.
- Hot water services.
- Above ground drainage.
- Modification to the existing Trend BMS controls.
The mechanical systems are designed to achieve the internal temperatures and ventilation rates required, utilising the latest building management system.
The heating system for the Hall extension is connected into the existing heating system in the school boiler/plant room. Glenhurst have provided a new pumped heating circuit to serve the Hall extension. This has been connected into the existing heating header pipework in the boiler plant room. Within the existing hall area, fan convector units and associated controls have been relocated.
New heating pipework is installed to serve the entrance refurbishment. Glenhurst connected the new heating system pipework into the existing, serving the fan convector units.
The mechanical ventilation to the extended Hall, is designed to provide fresh air supply and balanced extract for 200 pupils, plus 5 staff in the Hall. The air handling unit, is mounted at the front of the hall, above the ground floor corridor and servery roof.
Hot & cold water services are provided to wc’s, servery, classrooms and staff area, via local hot water heaters and boilers.
Above ground drainage, is provided and installed to suit the refurbishment and hall extension.
This impressive project gives increased and improved facilities to the pupils and staff and has also gained the Academy the capability to consider regular lettings from local community based organisations, during term time evenings.
The Abbey School
Reading
Established over 130 years, The Abbey School, is an acclaimed independent Girls School, located in Reading.
The project on site comprised of the complete refurbishment of an existing four storey detached house and associated outbuildings and construction of a new entrance and assembly hall for use as a primary school.
Project Scope
LPHW Heating systems are designed in accordance with the CIBSE method, to achieve a radiator and under floor heating system. The system serves the existing house and the nursery. The radiators serving the children’s areas, are the low surface temperature type radiators (LST).
The underfloor heating system serves the new assembly hall. Both the radiator and under floor heating systems, are served via the new condensing boilers in the lower ground floor plant room.
A Mitsubishi Ltd air conditioning system to serve the lower ground floor IT room is installed.
The ventilation installation comprises of a number of extract fans, together with ductwork distribution systems. Glenhurst installed ductwork above the false ceilings to serve the lower ground floor kitchen extract hood, which exhausts the foul air to atmosphere.
Extract systems to serve the residential 2nd floor accommodation, comprises of kitchen extract and bathroom extract.
Hot, cold and drainage services are installed to all applicable areas.
Francis Construction employed Glenhurst to supply and install all the mechanical services, in this fantastic modernisation and additional facility for The Abbey School pupils to enjoy.
Davenies School
Beaconsfield
Davenies School, is a day school for boys set close to Beaconsfield’s Old and New Town.
The school consists of a Grade II-listed former Georgian farm house, with elegant gardens, and the adjoining
modern Jubilee Building, constructed by Beard Construction.
Project Scope
Glenhurst designed and installed a multi-discipline HVAC mechanical services installation, benefitting from external air sourced heat pumps serving a multiple of internal hot water converters.The internal units are linked, with the control system operating the units on a cascade system, to meet the heating demand at any one time.
The system also supplies primary heating to the Hot water service cylinder and is given priority when demand calls.
The heat pump provides LPHW to an extensive scheme of underfloor heating, along with H&CWS to toilet and washroom facilities.
Ventilation is provided to the classrooms, to ensure acceptable levels of carbon dioxide are maintained, through central plant. Individual extract systems to other areas are installed.
Hearing Dogs
for Deaf People,
Saunderton
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, helps people with hearing loss, by providing them with Assistance Dogs, that can accompany them wherever they want to go. Their dogs are distinctive in that they wear burgundy coats with the Hearing Dogs logo, which also signals to other people, that the person they're with, is deaf.
Project Scope
Glenhurst provided a low temperature hot water heating system, for the new Visitor Centre, comprising of a primary circuit from new boilers, to low loss header, with secondary variable temperature circuits, serving underfloor heating and domestic hot water calorifier.
Hot and cold water services, include a new mains cold water supply to the new visitor centre, via a buried MDPE pipe, connected to the existing, site water mains supply.
The domestic hot and cold water services, from the new kitchen plant room, serve the new visitors kitchen, new toilets and disabled WC. Glenhurst provided a new hot water cylinder and accompanying plant, to serve these.
A new gas supply from the existing meter, is installed to serve the new boiler and kitchen equipment.
The main body of the visitor centre is naturally ventilated, via manually openable windows.
However, Glenhurst provided local extract fans to serve the new toilets and disabled WC. In addition, a mechanical supply and extract ventilation system serving the kitchen is installed. The new Visitor Centre, was opened by HRH Princess Anne 2019. The Princess is the charity’s Royal Patron, and visited its southern training centre, The Grange, in Saunderton, to meet some of the volunteers that are involved in raising, caring for, and training hearing dog puppies and their parents.
The remarkable facilities, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, provide for their supporters and recipients of the highly trained dogs, have been greatly enhanced by this new Visitor Centre.
